Affairs of Janice (1976)
Another Zebedy Colt classic! This one is a twisted experimental arthouse drama with a violent revenge and supernatural horror elements. The film is ridiculously cheap and obviously has budget limitations (the "ghost" effect for example) but the story and ideas are brilliant, in a diabolical madman kinda way. The movie starts with Zebedy's dead body floating in a swimming pool as he narrates the story, explaining how his life went tragically downhill ever since Janice (played by C.J Laing) came into his life. We learn he was in a troubled marriage with a pretentious empty lifestyle, always drinking with some snobby asshole socialites. His wife had an affair with Janice, an artist that at the moment is making a portrait of some dude. Janice ends up having an affair with the dude she's painting too, so Janice is really busy getting it on with everybody except Zebedy (ironically the one man that was sexually obsessed with Janice, giving the movie a humorous touch). When Zebedy's wife, the dude Janice is painting, and Janice end up in a very awkward threesome, the jealous Zebedy finally finds out about the affairs and plots his weird revenge, which involves somebody getting a brutal fisting up the joytrail until it bleeds and people painted silver from head to toe (huh?!). Things get even more strange when Zebedy's victim become a subject for a painting. In the end it's finally revealed how Zebedy dies and ends up in the swimming pool. His death was really retarded, which adds a "so bad it's good" cheezy appeal to this diverse experimental/horror/drama roughie. The music during the sex scenes gave the movie an artsy surreal atmosphere and seeing Zebedy go psycho as he gets his revenge is always a pleasure to see. I'm a huge sucker for stories combining depravity, artists, and ironic tragedy so I really enjoyed this movie and could easily overlook some of the standard sex scenes that went on a little too long (the only thing I'm not a big fan of in the movie). Alpha Blue Archives put this out on DVD in a XXX Triple Feature which has two other Zebedy films worth a look too for classic hardcore sleaze fans.
Crude Dude's Verdict: Weak for masturbation material but it's a Twisted, Dramatic, Cheezy, and Artsy flick that should please fans of cult exploitation films, such as myself.
